NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK. The newly-launched in NYC cannabis brunch series, Exhale NYC is doing their part to destigmatize plant medicine in communities of color—while making it a safe and inclusive experience for New Yorkers. A huge part of EXHALE’s Safe(r) Spaces Initiative includes connecting with and utilizing local organizations to ensure guests who indulge in alcohol use and other influences are safe. EXHALE seeks to partner with organizations implementing strategies to make wellness and party spaces more accessible, inclusive, and safe.
While that’s a lot to unpack, EXHALE NYC has recently joined forces with OUTSmart NYC for the last EXHALE of 2024. OUTSmart NYC will provide pre-event and day of event on-site support to the EXHALE Team and Guests. Volunteers will be present acting as a “3rd party” guest liaison providing bystander intervention services and resources. OUTSmart NYC volunteers are trauma-informed and will be visible during the event to support both guests and team members.
EXHALE encourages the event and nightlife community to engage and support organizations that help protect and provide resources to high-target communities such as BIPOC and LGBTQ individuals. These communities are targeted with both physical and sexual violence and have a history of being unprotected and unserved by local law enforcement. OUTSmart NYC provides critical training and support needed to help cultivate a caring and inclusive community while reducing and addressing harm due to violence.
OUTSMART NYC’s MISSION
OUTSmart NYC’s mission is to prevent and end sexual violence in nightlife and party spaces through training, advocacy, community organizing and referrals to supportive services. Their organization is a collective of Staff, Patrons, & Activists determined to end sexual violence in nightlife and party spaces.
