Miami, Florida. March 12, 2024. The Herbal Heart Study & EXHALE collab for heart health education and research for the opening EXHALE Miami Tour Stop. With heart disease being the leading cause of death in America and Cannabis being an under-researched plant due to U.S. restrictions, research becomes more important in order to begin countering the misleading and racially-motivated information that exists about the plant.
The Herbal Heart Study (HHS) is the first Cardiovascular Cannabis Cohort at the University of Miami seeking to explore the ways cannabis consumption can affect heart health. When used as a medicine, Cannabis has been shown to impact health in positive ways and researchers hope to gather information that will shed scientific light on the “magical” and all-purpose plant.
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention states that “over 60 million women (44%) in the United States are living with some form of heart disease. Heart disease is the leading cause of death for women in the United States and can affect women at any age…that’s 1 in every 5 female deaths.” In an effort to bring attention to the seriousness of women’s heart disease the organizations will share Heart health tips and healthy recipes throughout Women’s History Month.
EXHALE organizers found it important to allow Cannabis researchers such as the Herbal Heart Study to have access to their guests which largely includes women. “Cannabis Education and Research is important and the more we know about the plant the better medicinal use we get out of it.”
Recruitment for the Herbal Heart Study has already begun and HHS will continue enrollment until their goal of 350 participants is reached. South Florida residents ages 18-35 who consume cannabis by vape, blunt or joint may apply to participate in addition to healthy non-consumers between the ages of 18-35. EXHALE Miami guests will be able to engage with The Herbal Heart Study team at the Wellness Market on April 21 and encourage Florida residents to stop by their booth.

10% of EXHALE Miami proceeds will be donated to Esquina De Abuela established in 1986 by Cubana revolutionary Zoila (Soy-la) Guerra who’s name phonetically translates as “I am War.” The space was purchased by Zoila’s grandson decades later and continues to be a community staple and living art space. Today, this essential community safe-haven is at risk of becoming another commercial property in the Miami/Wynwood area. Music Videos, Murals, Festivals, Youth Programing, and countless other projects have manifested on the grounds of Esquina De Abuela and now the community’s help is needed for the space to thrive.
